Recreation is provided to enhance physical ability, teach teamwork and sportsmanship, and to provide positive interaction with others.
Many youth have not experienced the camaraderie of participating in organized sports due in part to their negative behavior in school. Recreation allow the youth to experience the sense of belonging that comes with being part of a team, working together for a common goal. The recreational component provides participation in a positive group activity. Recreation also provides a positive physical outlet promoting the importance of exercise and ultimately good health.
Tri-State offers its own basketball and softball league. Each team has designated colors and uniforms. Those youth who excel in a particular sport are asked to take part in Tri-State's “traveling team”. This team plays teams from other facilities, civic organizations and church leagues. Those not chosen for the traveling team often attend the events as a “cheering section” for their peers.
